The Company has passed many milestones since its founding. Some of NDT's most memorable performance highlights include:
1999
- NDT firmly establishes itself as a groundbreaking and important dance company with acclaimed performances in front of capacity crowds at Highland Park's Ravinia Festival
2001
- Mitra"”Tales of India, with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. This is the first-ever collaboration between an Indian dance company and Chicago's world-renowned orchestra.
- Presents "Bharata Natyam in the Diaspora: Spiritual, Classical, Contemporary," a four-day festival and conference presented by NDT in conjunction with its 25th Anniversary and hosted by the Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago. This was the first international conference on Bharata Natyam in the US; it the event dancers, choreographers, master teachers and scholars of international reputation.
2005
- NDT is the first US company ever to appear at the prestigious World Music Institute in New York City in a performance that the New York Times hailed as "Admirably precise animated sensual exceptional triumphant. daring."
- NDT is the first Indian dance company to receive the prestigious Chicago Dance Award,
- Featured in The Chicago Dance Project, a 13-part series produced by PBS
2006
- NDT performs with acclaimed cellist Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble before an audience of 13,000 at Chicago's Millennium Park.
- NDT collaborates with Chicago's Lookingglass Theatre Company and the Chicago Children's Choir on Sita Ram, a musical adaptation of Ramayana. Krithika Rajagopalan is nominated for a Joseph Jefferson Award for the choreography
- NDT produces Margam: The Sacred Path and receives its sixth "Critic's Choice" from the Chicago Reader
- NDT performs in "A World of Music, A World of Dance," which featured NDT Company dancers, members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, soloists from the Chicago Symphony Chorus, and dancers from Ensemble Español Spanish Dance Theater.
- Presents "Dance India: Choreographing Traditions," a festival and conference in 2006 involving over sixty choreographers, dancers, master teachers and scholars from India, the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States. Performances, lecture-demonstrations, master classes and panel discussions were open to the public.
2007
- NDT was the first Indian dance company ever to be presented as part of the season at The Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago season and premieres Alakshaya to sold out audiences.
- Premieres a commissioned work at Ravinia Festival
Upcoming 2011
- NDT makes its debut performance at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, with the world premiere of The Flowering Tree, the company's original adaptation of the classic fable.
